When a custom webhook inside Make.com fails to trigger, client lead generation funnels grind to a halt. Fortunately, 95% of webhook breakdowns stem from a few predictable configuration mistakes.
Why Is Your Make Webhook Failing to Trigger?
Make webhooks typically fail to fire due to three primary causes: the scenario is turned OFF, the webhook data structure has not been redetermined after form changes, or the sending platform is blocked by a strict firewall.
6 Quick Fixes to Restore Webhook Flow
- Verify Scenario Scheduling is Active: Ensure the main toggle at the bottom-left of the canvas is switched to ON. If it is OFF, incoming webhooks queue up or fail silently.
- Re-Determine the Data Structure: If you added new form fields, open the Webhook module, click “Re-determine data structure”, and send a live test payload from your source application.
- Check for 410 / Inactive Endpoint Errors: If you deleted and recreated a webhook module, the old URL is permanently disabled. Verify that your sending tool points to the current live URL.
- Add a Webhook Response Module: Some sender services (like Stripe or Shopify) require a
200 OKresponse within 5 seconds. Place a “Webhook Response” module immediately after your trigger to send an instant confirmation. - Inspect the Incomplete Executions Queue: If a downstream module failed, the scenario may have halted to protect data integrity. Review your queue under scenario history.
- Test via Postman or cURL: Send a manual POST request from your terminal to verify whether the issue lies within Make or the source software.
